Q. Why do dentists recommend seeing a dental care provider twice a year? My teeth and gums are healthy and my daily dental hygiene is excellent.
A. Good dental hygiene is important in caring for your smile, and you can be the first provider of that on a day to day basis. However, only a professional can clean your teeth of calculus – the buildup of hardened plaque or tartar on the teeth caused by the continual accumulation of minerals from saliva. In addition, seeing a professional tooth care specialist every six months ensures that any problems such as receding gums or gingivitis (gum disease) can be caught in an early stage.
Q. Does Dr. Carter accept insurance?
A. Family Dental Practice accepts most types of dental insurance and will be happy to file your insurance claims forms for you. Please be prepared to pay for your portion of the cost or co-pay at the time of your visit.
Q. How much will my dental work cost?
A. Just ask us for an estimate after we have examined you. We will set out the costs for you so that you understand clearly what should be covered under your insurance and what your portion will be.
Q. How can I pay for my dental work?
A. We now offer Care Credit, a new program in office financing that covers cosmetic and restorative dental work. In addition, we accept most major credit cards.
Q. What is a root canal?
A. A root canal is a slang expression for an endodontic procedure wherein the space inside the tooth where the root resides is cleaned of its pulp, disinfected, and then filled in. This procedure usually is necessary in cases where the root of the tooth is infected and the alternative would be to pull the tooth, which is never the best option.
